Nestled near a university in a seemingly middle-class community in a higher economic need county in NC, the team at Trinity learned to conduct listening encounters with their neighbors.

Their highly motivated team engaged almost all of the 300 neighboring homes surrounding the church property. They were astounded by the results: almost half the homes in the community named some level of food insecurity.

Their listening provoked clear, immediate, and generous action. Trinity engaged the expertise of congregants and community members to convert some of their 14 acres into a “You pick’em” organic farm. An extensive irrigation system was installed. Growing vegetables and flowers quickly took root on the property. Local community organizations happily joined the effort.

Their inspiring efforts have promoted new plans of work in the city and county.
